RTX 5090 Stock Disappears From US Online Retailers
Inventory for Nvidia's high-end RTX 5090 graphics card is vanishing from major US online retailers, pushing prices up significantly.

Stock of Nvidia's high-end RTX 5090 graphics card has largely disappeared from major US online retailers. What remains on store fronts are online listings from third-party sellers asking for prices far above the standard MSRP. Shoppers tracking graphics card prices have seen the high-end GPU go up significantly, with certain models reaching extreme prices through third-party resellers.
For instance, a Gigabyte Windforce RTX 5090 from Newegg was listed at $5,700, and later rose to $9,050 from a third-party reseller. The same card is currently sold out on Amazon and Best Buy, while the cheapest new RTX 5090 available from a reseller is the Asus TUF for $6,800. In the UK, options such as the Zotac RTX 5090 have been spotted going for £3,940 from Scan.
Where is all the stock going? Recent research suggests a trend of buyers purchasing more high-end graphics cards despite rising prices, with 12.5 million shipped last quarter alone. Nvidia continues to hold a 90 percent share of the market according to that report. However, industry factors also point toward high demand from artificial intelligence firms. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently shared that 100,000 Nvidia GPUs were used to train OpenAI's latest model, GPT-6 Astra, with plans to bring quadruple that amount online.
While specific RTX 5090 cards might not be the exact units used to train Astra, other artificial intelligence firms could be buying up high-end consumer cards for server PCs instead of datacenter accelerators or RTX Pro 6000 GPUs. Pallet images shared by HKEPC via VideoCardz imply this possibility. Nvidia may also be shifting more 4nm GB20x Blackwell chip stock toward professional products like workstations, leaving fewer gaming GPUs available and driving up runaway prices.
