Rockstar Games has published new mod guidelines that apply to every title in its catalog, including the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. Though the document does not name GTA 6 explicitly, modders have noted that the new restrictions will affect the game upon release.

The guidelines are available on Rockstar's Community Resources page. They outline what modders can and cannot do with the developer's games and intellectual property.

The policy prohibits mods that expand or alter official storylines, missions, or characters. Cross-game asset transfers are also banned, meaning modders cannot combine maps or characters from one Rockstar title into another. Unofficial ports that enable Rockstar games to run on unsupported consoles or hardware are forbidden, as are cheat menus that interact with official multiplayer services.

The restrictions have prompted concern within the modding community ahead of GTA 6's release. The guidelines represent a tightening of what has historically been a more permissive approach to fan-created content in Grand Theft Auto titles.
