Exnilo Studio has released Rivage, a narrative sci-fi puzzle game, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A new launch trailer showcases the game's environments and puzzle design.
Rivage distinguishes itself through its time loop mechanic. Players take on the role of Miranda, who wakes repeatedly in the same bunk at the same time, with all puzzles reset. The core challenge is determining the correct sequence of actions and discovering what happened to the other crew members aboard the A.R.E.S. space station, which orbits an exoplanet called Vesta. The planet attracted scientific interest due to its potential to harbor life.
The gameplay centers on logic-based puzzles that leverage the time loop mechanic to find ideal solutions. Environmental storytelling plays a key role, with players discovering journal entries and other items that gradually reveal why the crew has vanished. Miranda must also repair broken machinery scattered throughout the station.
Exnilo Studio emphasizes isolation as a core theme, exploring its psychological effects on Miranda across multiple timelines. The K9 system helps manage complexity by allowing players to log discoveries and organize puzzle solutions in one accessible location. This system also helps players track narrative threads more easily.
The game was originally scheduled for August 13 before being delayed to its current release date. Solving the central mystery involves uncovering both what befell the A.R.E.S. crew and the nature of the time loop trapping Miranda.
