Asobo Studio has returned with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a prequel set roughly 15 years before the events of the earlier titles in the franchise. Powered by the developer's proprietary Zouna engine, the game focuses on Sophia, a supporting character originally introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem. The story explores her childhood trauma and her quest to find a mysterious island inhabited by a monster, blending exploration, puzzle-solving, and hack-and-slash combat.

Available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S for $50, the title offers a focused, story-driven adventure lasting between 12 and 17 hours. Reviewers have praised its visual design, lighting, and environmental detail, noting that it serves as a streamlined palette cleanser compared to massive 100-hour role-playing games. However, the game has also faced scrutiny regarding its departure from traditional stealth mechanics toward direct blade-based combat, as well as minor technical hurdles at launch, such as shader compilation issues on Nvidia GPUs via Game Pass that were subsequently addressed by the developer.

Despite solid critical reception and strong technical scalability on PC—including support for DLSS 4.5, FSR 4.1, and XeSS—the title has struggled to capture widespread public attention. On Steam, the game achieved a peak concurrent player count of under 5,400 players, trailing behind concurrent figures for other simultaneous releases. Analysts suggest that the prequel premise focusing on a supporting character, a shift in core gameplay mechanics, a four-year gap since the previous installment, and intense competition from other modern releases may have contributed to its quieter commercial momentum.
