TC Esports Leads Rennsport R1 Fall Season After Dramatic Opening Round; Porsche Coanda Stumbles

The Rennsport R1 Fall Season kicked off with TC Esports drawing first blood, amassing 62 points across the opening round's two races. The format remains unchanged from the Spring competition, featuring four online rounds followed by a live final for the top six drivers at the SimRacing Expo in October. Each night, the 12 competing teams are split into two groups.

Group A featured MOUZ as the only established R1 team, but the night belonged to Rennsport Grandmasters' Nico Nunninghoff, who surprised everyone by taking pole position at Spa-Francorchamps over Max Benecke. Nunninghoff held his lead through the Kemmel Straight challenges and stayed out front for all eight laps to claim the win. Benecke's MOUZ teammate Moritz Lohner recovered to fourth, but the group offered limited overtaking opportunities.

Group B delivered far more drama. Josh Rogers secured pole position but was swarmed on the back straight during the opening lap. After side-to-side contact through Les Combes, Rogers spun before Malmedy, tumbling down the order. Jack Keithley capitalized on the chaos to take the lead for TC Esports, while Rogers recovered to sixth, still ahead of his struggling teammate Dayne Warren in seventh.

The action moved to Road Atlanta for Race 2, where Nunninghoff again claimed pole in Group A ahead of Benecke. The pair maintained their positions to the finish, while Lohner's evening worsened with a spin on the kerb at turn one on lap four, dropping him to ninth. He recovered only one place over the remaining laps, limiting MOUZ to 46 points in what could be their most favorable group.

In Group B's second race, 2023 Spring Season champion Marcell Csincsik rolled back the years with pole position in a TC Esports one-two qualifying result. Keithley's mistake dropped him to fifth, but Marko Pejic's subsequent spin for BS+ Competition promoted Keithley back to fourth. Csincsik held on to secure TCE's 62-point opening day total.

Rennsport Grandmasters emerged as the surprise package of the round with 55 points in second place. Meanwhile, reigning champions Porsche Coanda endured a sluggish start, sitting eighth with just 32 points and facing significant ground to make up when Round 2 begins next week.
