League of Legends Gameplay Lead Confirms Renata Glasc Needs Mid-Scope Rework

Riot Games' lead gameplay designer August Browning has acknowledged that support champion Renata Glasc requires a mid-scope rework. Speaking on stream, Browning conceded the champion is in need of a significant gameplay update to address her persistent unpopularity.
Renata's pick rate sits at just 1.18% on average across all tiers and regions on League of Legends Patch 26.19. Browning attributed this low adoption rate to her kit's heavy reliance on team coordination. Her W ability, Bailout, requires teammates to understand and capitalize on her revive mechanic, creating a play pattern that feels unsatisfying in solo queue.
"I think Renata could use a mini-rework to be honest, like a midscope," Browning said. Mid-scope updates are substantial revisions to a champion's abilities aimed at refining how they feel and defining their strategic role more clearly.
Browning explained that Renata occupies an awkward position due to her divergent performance levels. "Renata is a combination; she's pro-bound in the fact that we don't tend to buff her because she's good in pro sometimes," he noted. "But then the power of all her different spells means that her baseline play pattern is pretty unsatisfying. It tends to be very teammate-reliant, not that that's necessarily bad for enchanters."
High cooldown timers on her abilities compound the problem. Additionally, Browning cited a lack of clarity around the value her kit provides as reasons Renata has become unappealing to most players. Community members have also pointed out the difficulty of coordinating her Bailout ability without clear communication, an issue that may improve once League of Legends' team-wide voice chat launches (though that feature has already experienced delays).
