Remedy Entertainment has filed a new trademark for Alan Wake’s Return. The studio previously registered the same trademark in 2016, which prompted a response from creative director Sam Lake at the time. Lake confirmed that the 2016 trademark was not for a new project, but rather for an in-game video series featured within Quantum Break to protect the legalities surrounding the content.

The original 2016 trademark expired, and instead of renewing it, Remedy waited for it to expire and filed a completely new entry with additional details. The updated trademark replaces class 028 for toys with class 016 for printed material and class 025 for clothing. Meanwhile, class 041 retains multimedia services, and class 09 now covers significantly more details.

The timing has drawn attention because Remedy Entertainment recently entered a partnership with Annapurna to adapt Alan Wake and Control for film and television screens. While the new filing could relate to that multimedia partnership, it also leaves open the possibility of other projects. Remedy received a notification to renew the trademark in 2025, but chose to let it expire and file anew rather than simply extending the old protection.
