PS5 Emulators Achieve 60 FPS Playability for Six Games, Demon's Souls Approaches Performance Parity

Recent updates to SharpEmu and KytyPS5 have accelerated PS5 emulation progress, with six titles now running fully playable at 60 FPS and Demon's Souls remake reaching 40-50 FPS on high-end hardware.

PS5 emulation projects are progressing faster than previously anticipated. SharpEmu and KytyPS5, the two most active PS5 emulator initiatives, have published updated compatibility lists showing measurable performance gains across tested titles.

According to a SharpEmu developer known as Scarecrow, "out of 55 tested games, 12 can now reach in-game, and 6 of them are fully playable at 60 FPS." The six titles currently achieving stable 60 FPS performance consist primarily of indie projects and retro collections, including the Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered package. While neither emulator is yet a practical alternative to native hardware, both projects emphasize that bugs, visual glitches, and performance inconsistencies remain common even in the small number of bootable games.

KytyPS5 has demonstrated particularly notable progress with Bluepoint's Demon's Souls remake. The title ran at 30 FPS several weeks ago but has since improved substantially. Recent user-submitted videos show Demon's Souls reaching 40-50 FPS on KytyPS5, though achieving these frame rates requires an RTX 5090 graphics card and Intel i9-14900K processor. This remains below the PS5 version's 60 FPS performance mode, yet represents significant momentum toward console parity.

Scarecrow acknowledged the development: "I have to admit, this one hurts a little. Demon's Souls has been one of the milestones I've been chasing with SharpEmu for a long time, and seeing KyTyPS5 running it this well is both impressive and humbling."

AI tools have accelerated this progress considerably. Both emulation projects permit AI assistance for research, reverse engineering, and code generation, though contributors must understand and explain any AI-assisted code they submit. SharpEmu's GitHub documentation specifies that contributors should be able to articulate AI-generated contributions, a policy similar to that employed by the RPCS3 PS3 emulator team.
