Project Zomboid First-Person Mod PZ3D Goes Viral in Early Development
A community-made mod called PZ3D transforms Project Zomboid from isometric to first-person perspective. The mod is in early development and single-player only, though developers plan eventual multiplayer support.

A new mod has brought first-person perspective to Project Zomboid, fundamentally changing how players experience the survival zombie game. The mod, called PZ3D, was posted on September 24 and has quickly gained attention across social media.
PZ3D functions as a framework designed to shift the camera from the game's traditional isometric view down to the character's position, making all standard Project Zomboid mechanics work from first-person perspective. The mod handles engine and gameplay integration while allowing the community to expand it with custom models.
Currently, the mod supports single-player gameplay only. Players interested in trying it can download it, though the developers have stated that multiplayer support is planned for eventual implementation, with no confirmed timeline yet.
The mod requires an additional tool called ZombieBuddy to function. ZombieBuddy provides access to Java code and engine behavior modification beyond what standard modding tools allow. The developers note that concerns about third-party code access are legitimate, and installing the mod should be an informed decision made by users at their own risk.
Project Zomboid, originally released in November 2013, has become one of Steam's best-selling zombie games. The game currently maintains around 70,000 peak concurrent players daily and has accumulated 159,000 very positive player reviews on the platform. PZ3D is described as "very early work in progress," indicating significant ongoing development.
