Project Zeta Studio Details Action-Focused MOBA Designed to Cut Out Traditional Genre "Fluff"
Developer Nirvanana and publisher Krafton are shaking up the traditional MOBA genre with Project Zeta, an action-focused PC title that swaps long laning phases for constant player-versus-player conflict and short-form entertainment.

Developer Nirvanana and publisher Krafton are aiming to disrupt the multiplayer online battle arena genre with their upcoming PC title, Project Zeta. Eschewing traditional genre staples like slow-paced laning phases and farming minions, the studio has designed the game to focus entirely on immediate action and player-versus-player combat. According to Nirvanana CEO Namseok Kim, the project is born from a desire to modernize the MOBA format for contemporary audiences who gravitate toward short-form entertainment and immediate gratification.
During a hands-off demonstration at Gamescom, Project Zeta discarded the classic multi-lane map structure in favor of a single maze populated by walls and non-player character enemies. Instead of playing through long stretches of downtime, four teams of four players are thrust into continuous map objectives. Matches are broken down into short phases lasting just a few minutes each, with the map intensifying over time as more boss enemies appear. Teams must defeat these larger bosses to acquire vital prisms, which must eventually be turned in at a central location to secure victory.
The gameplay mechanics are heavily tailored to encourage constant engagement and eliminate passive play. When a squad successfully wins a battle, fallen allies are revived the instant the final blow is landed, and all skill cooldowns are immediately reset. This design choice prevents third-party ambush strategies from easily dominating weakened survivors by instantly refreshing victorious teams. Having previously worked on a battle royale MOBA, Nirvanana specifically moved away from survival-focused mechanics that historically fostered passive styles over time, choosing instead to craft an intense, fast-paced alternative.
