Pocketpair Clarifies Palworld 1.1 Update Scope
Pocketpair confirms Palworld 1.1 update will not take a year to develop, despite fan speculation about major features.
Pocketpair has clarified that the Palworld 1.1 update will not require a year of development, despite initial fan speculation about ambitious plans. Publishing head John "Bucky" Buckley initially fueled excitement by sharing a brainstorming session image for v1.1, but later clarified that the team does not intend to spend a year on a "massive update."
Buckley acknowledged receiving over 2,000 player suggestions for 1.1, ranging from manageable requests like additional storage slots to more complex ideas such as cross-server PvP and playable Pals. He emphasized that while some features are technically feasible, implementing them at scale would require significant time. For example, creating variant systems for Pals would involve manual work for over 200 characters, potentially taking a year or more without automation—a process Pocketpair has historically avoided due to its stance against generative AI.
Despite the scaled-back timeline, Buckley hinted at future collaborations and confirmed ongoing development. Palworld's post-launch success, with sustained Steam player numbers exceeding early access peaks, continues to drive updates. However, no specific release date or detailed roadmap for 1.1 has been announced.
The developer's comments follow a period of heightened community engagement, during which players proposed expansive changes. Buckley's initial enthusiasm for brainstorming sessions was tempered by the need to prioritize realistic development goals.
