Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia Expands Ahead of October Release
Frontier Developments details the animal roster and gameplay features for Planet Zoo 2, launching on October 13, 2026.

Frontier Developments has revealed new details regarding the upcoming release of Planet Zoo 2, which launches on October 13, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel introduces major gameplay changes to the series by incorporating water and avian animals alongside customizable wildlife reserves. This addition allows players to build custom aquariums and habitats for flying species.
As part of the promotional campaign leading up to launch, developer Frontier Developments highlighted the Sumatran orangutan in a recent Animal Spotlight video. The spotlight demonstrates how players must provide elevated vantage points, such as climbing platforms, to accommodate the species' natural tree-dwelling habits. The video also details the orangutan's ability to use tools and problem-solve, noting that wild populations typically live alone or in small groups.
The complete Planet Zoo 2 Zoopedia currently lists 104 announced animal species, with additional species expected to arrive via post-launch downloadable content packs. The original game featured over 200 species through updates and DLC, and the sequel is set to exceed the original title's initial launch number. Players who pre-order the game can secure a bonus content pack containing an exclusive Toucan eat shop, custom signage, three unique animal donation bins, and a tiger photo stand-in wall.
