STALKER-Like MMO ‘Pioner’ Player Count Hits Double Digits As Devs Go Silent Again
The post-apocalyptic MMORPG Pioner has seen its Steam player count drop to double digits, dropping to a peak of just eleven concurrent users in 24 hours as developer GFA Games remains mostly silent.

The post-apocalyptic MMORPG Pioner, which draws comparisons to titles like STALKER and Fallout 76, is facing a severe decline. In recent days, the game's player count has dropped dramatically, hitting double digits on Steam and threatening to fall into single digits. Within a 24-hour window, the game secured a peak concurrent player count of just eleven users. As this decline unfolds, developers at GFA Games have remained mostly silent.
Pioner is an online-only MMORPG, meaning that if the project ultimately fails, it will be taken offline permanently. The title spent many years in development and previously earned attention at E3. After receiving heavy investment, the game launched in early access on Steam in December 2025, giving it less than a full year on the market.
Earlier in the year, GFA Games faced a financial scandal involving reports of unpaid salaries while the studio dealt with a bankruptcy order. Studio leadership addressed those concerns at the time by indicating that operations were stable, but the subsequent radio silence from the team has raised concerns. The last update posted by the team on Steam arrived on July 28 and detailed a minor update, while social media channels have only shared quick server status messages for several weeks.
Before launch, Pioner was presented as an open-world, hardcore-oriented MMO featuring diverse biomes, story missions, side quests, skill paths, minor base-building elements, and extensive character customization. The game focuses heavily on PvE while offering specific modes for PvP players. Although it faced performance issues, it offered an enjoyable experience for its early players, but its future remains uncertain as player numbers shrink and developer communication halts.
