Pilotwings 64 Gets Unofficial PC Port with Widescreen Support and High Frame Rates
An unofficial PC version of the Nintendo 64 classic Pilotwings 64 is now available for Windows and Linux. The port, called Pilotwings 64: Recompiled, brings widescreen support, frame interpolation, and instant menu transitions to the 1996 flight

Pilotwings 64, the 1996 Nintendo 64 sequel to the SNES original, has received an unofficial PC port. The new version, called Pilotwings 64: Recompiled, brings the classic flight simulation game to Windows and Linux as a native port.
The port introduces several technical improvements over the original. Widescreen support allows the game to use your display's full aspect ratio while keeping the heads-up display near the screen edges. The old black overscan border has been removed. Frame interpolation enables the game to run at your display's refresh rate, making movement smoother than the original version.
Menu performance has been significantly improved. The original game could pause for up to six seconds when changing some menus. The recompiled version makes these transitions instant.
Pilotwings 64: Recompiled includes a launcher with graphics, sound, and control settings. Both keyboard and controller input are supported, and players can remap controls and use mods through the launcher.
The game puts players in control of one of six pilots earning pilot licenses through various aviation activities, including flying an autogyro, using a jet pack, hang gliding, skydiving, and a human cannonball test. The game emphasizes freely exploring its detailed 3D environments.
The port requires your own copy of the US version of Pilotwings 64. No game data is included with the port. It runs on both Windows and Linux.
