Persona Series Sales Report Shows North America Now Dominates, Ahead of Japan
A SEGA sales report reveals North America accounts for roughly 40% of Persona franchise sales, marking a major shift from the series' niche Western status before Persona 5's breakthrough success.

A new sales report from SEGA has provided fresh insight into the global popularity of the Persona series, showing a significant regional shift in where the franchise generates its revenue.
North America now represents the Persona franchise's biggest market, accounting for roughly 40% of all sales across the series. Europe contributes another 20%, meaning the western world drives the majority of Persona's modern success. The remaining 40% is split evenly between Japan and the rest of Asia.
This distribution inverts the historical pattern not just for Persona, but for Japanese gaming properties broadly. Before Persona 5's arrival, the series occupied a niche position in the US and Europe. Atlus depended on a healthy Japanese audience to fund localization efforts overseas, and Western players often waited months or even years for releases to reach their regions.
The report also breaks down sales figures for individual entries. Persona 3-related sales have exceeded 5 million units, while Persona 4-related sales reached 5.7 million. Persona 4 Revival is expected to push that total beyond 6 million. Persona 5-related sales currently stand at 13 million units.
Industry observers suggest this data supports the expectation that Persona 6, rumored to launch next year, will receive a global release simultaneously. Such a launch would mark the first mainline Persona title to debut worldwide at the same time rather than staggered across regions.
