Persona 1 and 2 Remakes Are "Something We'll Probably Eventually Do," Series Producer Says

With Persona 3 Reload now released and Persona 4 Revival launching in February 2027, Atlus appears committed to revisiting its classic entries in the long-running series. Series producer Kazuhisa Wada has indicated that remakes of the first two mainline games will likely follow.

In a recent interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Wada stated that "Persona 1 and 2 are something we'll probably eventually do too." He framed the remake effort within a broader philosophy of preservation. "For me, I think a remaster or remake is some kind of cultural preservation," Wada explained. "As a creator, it's your duty to take the things you've done and make sure they're not lost, and are still around in the modern day."

Persona 1 (originally titled Persona Revelations) released on the original PlayStation in 1996, followed by Persona 2: Innocent Sin in 1999. Both games remain unavailable on modern systems, making Wada's preservation argument particularly relevant. Persona 1 received a limited re-release for PlayStation Portable in 2009 and a 1999 PC port that never reached Western markets. The early entries lack the social link system that became central to the series' identity starting with Persona 3, instead featuring first-person dungeon exploration similar to older Shin Megami Tensei titles.

This is not Wada's first public acknowledgment of potential remakes. Last month, he stated, "I think it's something we should definitely do. I think we have to do it," suggesting sustained internal consideration of the project. However, no official announcement has been made. Given that Persona 4 Revival launches in February 2027 and the eventual arrival of Persona 6 remains on the horizon, industry observers expect any formal reveal would likely occur several months after Persona 4 Revival's release.

Atlus originally conceived of both Persona 3 and Persona 4 remakes around the same time, according to Wada, though Persona 4's project was delayed. A prominent Sega leaker claimed years ago that remakes of both Persona 1 and 2 were in development alongside what would become Persona 4 Revival, though specifics about the scope of those projects remained unclear.
