Over 700 Games Launched on Steam in One Week for the First Time, Though 74% Had Fewer Than 10 Reviews

For the first time, more than 700 games were released on Steam in a single week, though data shows 74% received fewer than 10 reviews.

For the first time, more than 700 games were released on Steam in a single week, though 74% of those titles received fewer than 10 reviews. According to data shared by ICO Partners CEO Thomas Bidaux, 720 games launched on the digital storefront in a single week, which he noted occurred "a month earlier than expected."

Out of the 720 newly launched titles, 520 games recorded between zero and nine reviews, while 190 games received more than ten reviews. Further breakdown of the data indicates that 95 games secured over 50 reviews, 62 titles gathered more than 100 reviews, and 10 games exceeded 1,000 reviews. These metrics overlap, as titles reaching the 1,000-review milestone are also counted within the broader 50+ and 100+ categories.

The broader platform metrics continue to show significant growth. Amir Satvat shared during the Gamescom Dev opening keynote that Steam reached approximately 12,000 releases during the first half of the year, marking a 19% year-on-year increase. Alinea Analytics estimated that platform revenue for that same period hit $11.1 billion. By comparison, 20,000 games launched on Steam throughout the previous year. Satvat also highlighted that only about 3% of those annual releases—roughly 600 titles—achieved a peak concurrent user count of 100 or higher. Meanwhile, a previous whitepaper from PC distribution platform Rokky indicated that over half of surveyed developers feel they rely too heavily on Steam, with 72% expressing the view that the platform holds a monopoly in the games market.
