NYT Strands #942 Hints and Answers for October 1

NYT Strands is a daily word search puzzle game from The New York Times, launched in 2024. Players find a common theme among words in a 6×8 letter grid, with an additional Spanagram that reveals the deeper theme behind the words.

In Strands, words that are three letters or fewer do not count toward your score. Words that reveal the correct theme appear in blue, while the Spanagram turns yellow when found. Finding three words that don't fit the theme reveals a hint to help you locate the right words. The goal is to string together as many words as possible and use every letter on the grid.

For Game #942 on October 1, the answers relate to terms describing things that have shattered. Here are helpful hints to get you started:

Hint 1: Smash into smaller pieces, often used to describe a dessert topping. Hint 2: To fall down suddenly, often under pressure or weight (6 letters). Hint 3: Cause to disappear into a liquid. Hint 4: What you do to a piece of that KitKat bar. Hint 5: Came apart into pieces.

The Spanagram hint is a two-word phrase to describe something unfixable.

You can only play Strands on The New York Times website or the NYT Games app. The game updates daily at 12 am (midnight) in your time zone. Game #943 will be available on October 2.
