Luke Muscat's Normal Golf Game hits 98% Very Positive on Steam after two days
The Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride veteran releases his solo project, a deliberately absurd golf game that defies expectations. Muscat discusses the unsustainable work pace behind the launch.
Luke Muscat, the designer behind Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, has released Normal Golf Game, a deliberately unconventional golf title that has already earned a 98% Very Positive rating on Steam after just two days.
Normal Golf Game presents itself as a relaxing 18-hole golf experience complete with singing birds and gentle breezes. The catch: the rules are deliberately loose. Players can tee from anywhere and aim freely, but leaving the course is explicitly not allowed.
To mark the release, Muscat published a YouTube video titled "My game is out and I have to stop doing this," where he reflects on his creative process and the toll it takes. "This is working myself into oblivion until I'm burning myself on every single project," he says in the video. "That's what needs to stop."
Muscat acknowledged that this game represented some of his most intensive work over his 20-year career, despite recognizing that the pace is unsustainable. "I care about my games, but I know it's unsustainable," he commented. He also admitted that part of him initially feared the release would be unsuccessful, describing it as "putting this game out to die."
Normal Golf Game is available on Steam, bundled with other golf simulations.
