Nightdive's Thief Remaster Shown Off at PC Gaming Show Tokyo
A new gameplay trailer for Nightdive's remaster of the original Thief reveals enhanced visuals and controller support inspired by community mods. The remaster has no release date yet.

Nightdive Studios showcased a substantial gameplay trailer for its remaster of the original Thief at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct. The footage highlights the classic stealth game running with modernized visuals while preserving its original art style.
The trailer features protagonist Garrett looting poorly-lit environments including manors, sewers, crypts, tombs and dungeons. Nightdive's approach to the remaster focuses on refined touches rather than aggressive texture upscaling or model replacement, maintaining the visual identity players remember from the 1998 original.
The developer has incorporated controller support designed around the game's existing mod community. The interface includes an inventory wheel for selecting items like different arrow types, a feature already popular in fan mods for the original version. This approach aims to make PC gaming's original 1998 release feel natural on a controller.
The remaster remains without a confirmed release date. Players can wishlist Thief: The Dark Project Remastered on Steam to receive updates as development progresses.
