New York City is preparing for its first citywide celebration of the video game industry this fall. New York Games Week will run from October 4 through October 11, uniting more than 25 distinct events, showcases, and conferences across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. The initiative is organized by three veteran event producers—Guy Blomberg of Games Industry Gathering, Krysti Pryde of PlayNYC, and Amit Hossain of IGDA NYC—and carries backing from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment as well as the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Programming includes a range of activities designed to span the full industry spectrum. Highlights are the New York Comic Con, which draws over 250,000 attendees as the East Coast’s largest pop culture convention, the independent showcase Game‑A‑Palooza, the first in‑person Fashion in Gaming Awards, and a joint event from Women in Games and Game Devs of Color. The week opens with VGAmateurs, a two‑hour digital showcase streamed live on Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok, featuring developer trailers, reveals, and short interviews.

Unlike a traditional trade show, New York Games Week does not rely on a single venue or ticket. Instead, independent studios, schools, nonprofits, and industry groups run their own events under the week’s banner, with a central calendar at nygamesweek.com tying the schedule together. Admission varies by event, offering both free public access and paid, registration‑required experiences. Organizers note that the current lineup represents an early slate and that additional events will be announced in the coming weeks.

The organizers frame the week as a response to New York’s already substantial gaming footprint, pointing to local studios, universities, and an active independent developer community. Senior Vice President of Innovation Industries Daria Siegel highlighted the diversity of talent across the city’s boroughs as a driving force, while Commissioner Rafael Espinal emphasized the sector’s economic impact, noting millions in activity and thousands of jobs supported by gamers and creators alike.

New York Games Week joins a growing list of city‑backed gaming initiatives, including the NYC Video Game Festival, the Made in NY Animation Training Program, MediaMKRS workforce programs, and the NYC Summer of Games series. Together, these efforts aim to build out New York’s pipeline for game development talent, investment, and employment. Organizations interested in hosting events under the New York Games Week umbrella can apply through the event’s website, with sponsorship opportunities also available.
