New Metro 2039 Gameplay Trailer Confirms February Release Date

Developer 4A Games has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated first-person shooter Metro 2039 will launch on February 4, 2027. The exact release date was revealed during a recent Sony State of Play showcase, accompanied by a brand-new console gameplay trailer that highlights the game's dark, post-apocalyptic atmosphere and tense combat encounters.

The newly released footage offers players a fresh look at the game world, taking viewers through an abandoned dentist's office before diving headfirst into gritty gunfights. The trailer also introduces a new protagonist known as The Stranger, following the character through post-apocalyptic Moscow as a storm brews overhead. Classic survival elements return, complete with a countdown timer on the protagonist's watch monitoring the expiration of their radiation filter, alongside signature gunplay featuring silenced submachine guns.

In addition to showcasing the game in action, the developers confirmed technical performance details for launch. On Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro, Metro 2039 will feature a 60FPS Performance Mode complete with ray tracing support. Specific details regarding Xbox Series S performance have not yet been mentioned, though developers have indicated that more information regarding console specifications will be shared closer to launch.

The upcoming title is arriving almost eight years to the day after the release of Metro Exodus in 2019. Having already amassed nearly two million global wishlists following a strong showing at Gamescom, Metro 2039 is set to debut during an exceptionally busy period for Microsoft's platform, sharing its February 2027 release window with titles such as Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, and first-party heavy-hitter Fable.
