Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance Trailer Showcases Sword & Shield Boosted Actions

Capcom has released a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds' major upcoming expansion, Ascendance, giving players a closer look at new and returning creatures alongside weapon-specific combat mechanics. Following previous overviews for weapons like the Great Sword and Bow, the latest promotional materials focus heavily on the Sword & Shield, alongside previous showcases for the Dual Blades, Hammer, Light Bowgun, and Charge Blade.

According to recent updates, the Ascendance expansion introduces new combat and hunting abilities centered around the Boost Driver and Boost Bracer systems. When players enter Boost mode following the use of new Boost Driver attacks, they gain access to enhanced attacks and new combos known as Boosted Actions. For the Sword & Shield, the Boost Driver allows players to leap quickly toward a monster and chain directly into a spiraling Falling Bash. Furthermore, standard basic combos gain additional hits at the end, and the Boosted Perfect Rush hits significantly harder than in the base game. The expansion also marks the return of weapon oils via a new Bladecoating Slash ability, which lets hunters coat their blades using items for unique status effects, such as a green-hued coating that restores health on successful hits.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is planned to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The expansion continues the narrative of the Forbidden Lands, taking players to islands floating in the sky while introducing new Master Rank content, fresh enemy types, and the return of Elder Dragons. Additional details and a potential release date could be revealed during upcoming showcases like the Capcom Spotlight.
