Capcom Unveils Monster Hunter Wilds Expansion Ascendance with Boost Bracer Weapon Mechanics

Capcom has begun rolling out new trailers and details for Monster Hunter Wilds and its upcoming major expansion, Ascendance, which is scheduled for release in 2027. Ahead of a broader showcase anticipated during Tokyo Game Show, the publisher has launched a daily video series dedicated to showing how the expansion will alter the game's 14 weapon types through a new system known as Boosted Actions.

According to official details released alongside the trailers, the expansion introduces a hunting action called the Boost Bracer, designed to help players ascend to Master Rank. By remaining aggressive during combat, hunters can build up Boost Bracer energy and activate a 'Boost' state using a special Boost Driver attack or other unique weapon-specific actions. This mechanic unlocks enhanced attacks, new combos, and alternative playstyles across the entire weapon roster. The initial weapon breakdown video highlights the Great Sword, showcasing abilities such as flinging forward with the Boost Driver, unleashing explosive charged slashes, and chaining together offset attacks.

Alongside the upcoming expansion details, recent updates to Monster Hunter Wilds have introduced a Prologue Demo. The playable demo features story content through Chapter 1-3, titled "To the Forest," incorporates all weapon types, and allows save data to carry over to the full game. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with a Switch 2 version also in development.
