Modder Adds WinterV Beta Snow to Grand Theft Auto 5

A modder has updated Grand Theft Auto 5 with the WinterV Beta mod, bringing realistic winter weather and snow to Los Santos ahead of a scheduled project hiatus.

A modder working on daily modifications for Grand Theft Auto 5 has introduced winter weather to Los Santos by installing the WinterV Beta mod. The modification introduces falling snow flakes, a sheen of powder covering cars on the roads, and tire-chains, alongside a distinctive sickly, ochre hue to the world's lighting that mimics real-life conditions.

While the project aims to continuously alter Rockstar's open-world title—with the eventual joke of transforming it into a PC version of GTA 6—the current winter weather update changes the overall aesthetic vibe of the game. According to the modder, the presence of snow does not settle on map sections affected by missing exterior geometry, and car handling impacts were not observed due to existing modifications removing vehicle handling entirely.

Alongside the WinterV Beta showcase, the project's creator announced that Los Santos Customs will take a brief hiatus. The creator is scheduled to take nine days off to rest and recover from an illness acquired during Gamescom 2026, with regular modding updates expected to return the week after next.
