Modder turns Grand Theft Auto 5 into Pokémon Go with unique community creation

A modding project has introduced a Pokémon Go-style creature-catching experience into Grand Theft Auto 5, featuring characters like Squirtle, Geodude, and Charmander.

A dedicated modder has transformed Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto 5 into an unexpected creature-catching adventure reminiscent of Pokémon Go. The ongoing modding quest aims to drastically alter or reshape the open-world title through daily modifications, leading to the creation of a specialized version dubbed Pokémon Go GTA Edition.

Instead of the usual bustling pedestrian population, the streets of Los Santos are populated with recognizable figures such as Geodude, Squirtle, and Charmander. During testing, Trevor took to the roads on Franklin's motorbike to track down and capture wild creatures using pokeballs during drive-by encounters. While successful attempts yielded a Geodude and a Squirtle, not all encounters went smoothly. A Charmander broke free from its pokeball and engaged in a physical confrontation before ending up face-down in the tarmac following a precise right hook.

This creative project adds a bizarre twist to the traditional sandbox experience, bringing iconic pocket monsters directly into the gritty streets of Los Santos alongside familiar criminal protagonists.
