Official: Metroid Ravenous Unveiled as MercurySteam's New Metroid 6 for January 2027
Nintendo and developer MercurySteam officially announced Metroid Ravenous during a Nintendo Direct, revealing a January 28, 2027 release date.

During a Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo and developer MercurySteam officially unveiled Metroid Ravenous, confirming the project as the studio's new Metroid 6. While the game's development by MercurySteam under the leadership of José Luis Márquez had previously been an open secret and the subject of summer leaks, the official showcase provided the first concrete look at the title.
Scheduled for release on January 28, 2027, the title was showcased with a fast-paced teaser video featuring frenetic gameplay that builds upon the style established in Metroid Dread. The trailer introduced a host of new scenarios, characters, and enemies, alongside narrative hints involving Samus Aran stranded on a hostile moon. According to dialogue from Samus in the footage, the bounty hunter has been seriously injured by unknown assailants and faces slim chances of survival, introducing a new energy-absorption mechanic tied to the tagline 'eat or be eaten.'
The title's name has also fueled fan speculation regarding connections to Raven Beak, an antagonist previously featured in Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread. As players await the 2027 launch, the new teaser provides plenty of material for fans to analyze ahead of Samus Aran's next 2D mission.
