Metro 2039 Set to Launch in February 2027 With 4K, 60 FPS, and Ray Tracing on Consoles

4A Games has announced that Metro 2039 will release on February 4, 2027, featuring a performance mode with 4K, 60 FPS, and ray tracing across current-generation consoles.

Developer 4A Games and publisher Plaion have announced that Metro 2039 will officially launch on February 4, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The release date announcement was paired with the first console gameplay footage showcased during a recent PlayStation State of Play broadcast. This gameplay footage, captured on a PlayStation 5 Pro running at 60 frames per second, follows a character known as the Stranger as he departs the underground tunnels to explore the thawing, irradiated surface of post-apocalyptic Moscow.

According to a press release from 4A Games and Plaion, the title is optimized to run smoothly across hardware tiers. At launch, a dedicated Performance Mode will provide 4K resolution at 60 FPS alongside ray tracing across standard PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X consoles. The game is being developed using the latest iteration of the proprietary 4A Engine. The studio notes that Metro 2039 is the first game in the franchise built from the ground up around ray tracing, expanding upon the illumination systems previously featured in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.

As a solo, story-driven first-person shooter, Metro 2039 continues the series' focus on survival, exploration, stealth, and direct combat mechanics. Players must monitor equipment and radiation exposure while navigating hostile environments using either silent or aggressive tactics. While the title releases on February 4, 2027, in most territories, it is scheduled to launch on February 5 in regions including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Players can currently add the game to their wishlists, with pre-orders expected to open later in the year.
