Marathon Creative Director Dismisses Rumored IP Merge With Destiny 2
Marathon creative director Julia Nardin has publicly denied online rumors claiming that Bungie plans to merge Marathon and Destiny 2 into a single franchise.

Bungie developer Julia Nardin has addressed and dismissed online speculation regarding a potential structural merge between Marathon and Destiny 2. Taking to social media, the Marathon creative director responded directly to a widely circulated rumor originating on internet forums. Nardin stated that the leaked information regarding a combination of the two intellectual properties is completely false.
"As someone who's worked on both Destiny and Marathon, I can confirm that the 'leak' about us merging the two IPs is fake," Nardin wrote. "They share a lot of the same Bungie DNA, but like siblings they're also their own independent entities. Please don't believe everything you read online."
Nardin brings direct experience from both franchises to the statement. Prior to taking on the creative director role for Marathon earlier in the year, she contributed to narrative elements for several Destiny 2 expansions and served as associate narrative director on the mobile shooter Destiny: Rising. The denial was further amplified within the community when Bungie communications lead Dylan Gafner, known widely as dmg04, reposted the message.
The speculation stemmed from an extensive post shared on online message boards and subsequently discussed on community subreddits. Beyond the debunked franchise merge, the unverified claims touched on topics including potential gameplay adjustments and future content directions. While Nardin's public statement explicitly debunked the crossover theory, it did not address other speculative points raised in the original forum post.
Bungie continues to shape the trajectory for Marathon following its launch and subsequent updates. The development team previously adjusted its content roadmap, including moving a planned September content rollout to December and implementing a smaller seasonal refresh in October alongside shifts to its seasonal schedule structure.
