Marathon Content Update Delayed to December 8th as Bungie Abandons Seasonal Model
Bungie has delayed Marathon's upcoming Symbiosis update to December 8th and announced it is moving away from the seasonal content model to give the development team more flexibility.

Bungie has announced major changes for Marathon, shifting away from its traditional seasonal schedule and pushing back the next major content update. Initially scheduled to launch on September 22nd, the Symbiosis update will now arrive on December 8th. According to the studio, abandoning the strict seasonal model gives the development team more flexibility to build, test, and improve features based on player feedback before release.
The upcoming December update serves as an important milestone for the extraction shooter. It introduces the game's first permanent Player versus Environment experience, which provides a new way to explore and engage with the world outside of traditional PvPvE gameplay. Other additions arriving with the Symbiosis update include a refreshed version of Perimeter, a new Runner Shell, an experimental Team Deathmatch mode, onboarding improvements, and a social space that functions as a firing range.
Before the December release, the game will still receive other updates. An October 6th update brings a progression and economy reset, a new Rewards Pass, balance adjustments, and the return of Vault Breaker, alongside ongoing gameplay experiments. Bungie also plans to publish a blog post later in the month detailing how the team intends to evolve the title into a more alien and dynamic survival experience.
Marathon originally launched in March for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The developer noted that the upcoming updates through March and beyond will be shaped by ongoing player feedback.
