M80 Acquires Boston Breach Call of Duty League Franchise as CDL Ends Guaranteed Team Revenue
M80 has acquired the Boston Breach franchise and will operate M80 Boston in the Call of Duty League starting with the 2026 season. The move comes as Activision eliminates guaranteed annual revenue for CDL teams, forcing franchises to rely on merchandise

M80 has acquired the Boston Breach franchise and will enter the Call of Duty League as M80 Boston, marking what the organization describes as the largest commitment in its history. The franchise will be based and operated out of the Greater Boston area, with team operations, staff and community programming anchored in the region. M80 Boston enters the league ahead of the October 23 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The transaction adds Call of Duty to M80's competitive portfolio, which already spans Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League and 2XKO. Adam Morrison, co-founder of Oxygen Esports and the former chief operating officer of Boston Breach's operator, is joining M80 as chief commercial officer and will take an ownership stake in the organization. He will lead partnership sales, revenue diversification, media rights and brand development across every M80 division.
The Boston Breach franchise was acquired from Oxygen CDL entity, according to Adam Morrison. Oxygen Esports ceased operations in August 2024 after layoffs and planned funding cuts from the Kraft Group, the investment arm of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Kraft had retained ownership of the CDL slot throughout Oxygen's collapse, according to Breaking Point reporting from March 31, 2025. The acquisition displaces a reported arrangement in which OMiT had reached an agreement to take control of day-to-day operations with founder Rafi Huezo and co-investors overseeing the team, with a long-term takeover planned for the 2027 season.
Morrison said in a statement: "Building a franchise with strong New England and Boston heritage was one of the most rewarding undertakings of my career. Call of Duty League continues to grow, and M80 now has a portfolio that reaches audiences across multiple franchises. My job is to make sure our partners get real value out of that reach and to facilitate their growth alongside our own."
The acquisition arrives as Call of Duty League team economics have shifted significantly. In April 2024, Activision eliminated entry fees estimated at $25 million per slot and refunded previously paid fees. The publisher also raised teams' share of in-game merchandise revenue and event subsidies for teams hosting Majors, while granting a two-year revenue guarantee of $500,000 per year.
That guarantee has ended. Starting with the 2026 season, the publisher is removing guaranteed revenue for league teams entirely, according to reporting from Sheep Esports and Ministry of Sport. The revenue phase-out moved the split from 50/50 to 75/25 before ending completely. Without the guarantee, some clubs are estimated to fall to roughly $100,000 in annual revenue.
Activision sold more than 360,000 team-branded skins at $12 each in the first half of 2025, producing more than $4.3 million to be divided between the publisher and teams. FaZe led with more than 120,000 bundles sold; the league average was around 30,000 units, or roughly $135,000 per team in revenue share. Several teams took in under $50,000. Against this, a four-player roster can cost more than $1 million in salaries, with individual stars commanding above $400,000 a year. One organization member told Sheep Esports that everyone will operate at a loss except possibly FaZe, 100 Thieves, Gentlemates and OpTic.
What M80 is acquiring is not a franchise slot with a price attached; CDL slots now cost nothing to enter. Instead, M80 is taking on the operating obligations of a team in a league that now pays exclusively according to how much merchandise its fans purchase.
