Kojima Unsure Whether Physint Will Release on PlayStation After Xbox Deal
Hideo Kojima says platform availability for the tactical espionage game remains undecided, with Xbox now publishing after Sony's surprise exit in June.

Hideo Kojima does not yet know whether Physint will release on PlayStation following Xbox's decision to pick up publishing duties from Sony.
Sony dropped the project in June after Kojima Productions secured Xbox as a new partner and funder. The transition left major questions unanswered about the game's future across platforms. When asked directly by IGN whether Physint would still come to PlayStation, Kojima replied, "I don't know the answer to that—that would be a question for Xbox."
Kojima noted that Xbox has historically aimed for broad audience reach across multiple platforms. "In previous updates from Xbox, I thought that they have this kind of stance where they want to deliver to as many gamers as possible, no matter what the platform is," he said. Xbox's approach to exclusivity has shifted under new CEO Asha Sharma, who took over at the start of the year. The company recently confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will remain Xbox exclusives, though titles like Forza Horizon 6 and Fable are still planned for PlayStation 5.
Engine decisions for Physint also remain unsettled. Originally in development with Sony's backing, the game was potentially built on Decima, the engine developed by Guerrilla Games and previously used for Death Stranding. Kojima said he is still experimenting and has not finalized an engine choice. "I haven't really decided yet," he told IGN. "After we decided to team up with Xbox, they said they will give us a lot of technological support."
Kojima described visiting Xbox's facilities and being impressed by their research capabilities. "When I went to visit them during the Don Mattrick days, they had so many labs and everything, and they were experimenting on so many things, like state-of-the-art, new, really new, cutting-edge technology," he said. "I was really surprised. I was thinking, 'There are so many Doc Browns from Back to the Future here!' So I want to use all this new technology."
Kojima Productions' other Xbox-funded project, OD: Knock, is being developed on Unreal Engine 5, suggesting Physint could potentially follow a similar path. However, neither Physint nor OD: Knock currently has a release target.
Development on Physint continues with a smaller team focused on core elements. Kojima said the project remains in the experimentation phase for new technology including enemy AI. He has expressed determination to complete the game and has discussed potential plans for a live-action film adaptation, possibly using shared assets between the game and movie productions.
