Kingmakers has emerged from a prolonged hiatus after its final-minute delay, reappearing with an extended gameplay video and opening registrations for an upcoming playtest. Developer Redemption Road shared a new "deep dive" trailer that outlines the experiences players can expect, while inviting interested fans to join a structured playtest session. The game centers on a unique blend of combat and strategy. Players start by fighting overwhelmingly superior enemies, then progress to leading armies on a grand scale. Key activities include building and managing settlements, constructing fortifications, and gathering resources to purchase improved equipment. One highlighted moment features commanding a Leopard 2 tank during the fictional Battle of Bannockburn, though the source clarifies that this historic battle does not actually appear in Kingmakers. Instead, the game focuses on assisting Welsh nobleman Owain Glyndŵ during his 1403 uprising against the English. While the core loop offers tactical depth, some players question whether the emphasis on massive warfare overshadows other aspects of the experience. The trailer also notes that certain cinematic interludes serve primarily as exposition rather than integral game content. Despite these observations, the development team has expressed openness to community input through the playtest process. Steam currently lists Kingmakers as "coming soon," indicating that no official release date has been announced yet. Interested players are encouraged to visit the Steam page and claim their place in the test group. The project remains in active development, with the next major milestone being the public playtest phase.
