Kingdom Hearts IV Due Out In Late 2027, Coco Confirmed In New Trailer From D23 Event

Square Enix has officially confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV is scheduled to launch in late 2027. The announcement was made during the D23 event over the weekend, where a brand-new trailer debuted an in-game world inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco, alongside news of a companion anime series in development for Disney+.

Following the initial release window announcement, series director Tetsuya Nomura and co-director Tai Yasue addressed immediate speculation and skepticism from fans regarding potential delays. Speaking at a D23 panel, Nomura sought to set the record straight, stating that a delay "is not happening." Yasue backed up the statement, noting that development is progressing smoothly and expressing full confidence that the game will meet its late 2027 target.

In addition to the release window details, information regarding gameplay and playable characters emerged from the event. Players will see Sora navigating the realistic city of Quadratum while fighting off the Heartless. Furthermore, the game will allow players to control Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as they search for Sora's whereabouts across various Disney worlds. The developers also noted that marketing for the RPG has only just begun, promising more news and trailers ahead of its late 2027 launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 platforms.
