Guerrilla Games Reportedly Developing Killzone Remake With External Studio
A new report claims Guerrilla Games is working with an external developer on a Killzone remake or remaster, potentially marking the franchise's return after more than a decade of silence.

Guerrilla Games appears to be reviving the Killzone franchise with a remake or remaster developed in collaboration with an external studio, according to reports from MP1st cited by Insider Gaming and Gamereactor.
The last new Killzone title, Shadow Fall, launched on PlayStation 4 in 2013, after which Guerrilla shifted focus to developing the Horizon franchise. The rumored project would mark a significant return for a series that once competed with major FPS franchises like Halo and Call of Duty during the 2000s.
While the exact Killzone title being remade remains unconfirmed, reports suggest it would likely be the original 2004 PlayStation 2 game that started the franchise. The core Killzone trilogy, combined with later releases including a PSP spinoff and PS Vita exclusive, established the series as a flagship PlayStation shooter before its extended dormancy.
According to the reports, People Can Fly—the developer behind Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, and Outriders—is the external studio partnered with Guerrilla on the project. This collaboration reportedly stems from a March 2025 agreement between People Can Fly and PlayStation to co-develop a game based on existing PlayStation intellectual property.
The reported shift to prioritize the Killzone remake comes as Guerrilla Games reportedly reboots one of its live-service titles, Horizon Hunters Gathering, starting development from scratch. The Killzone remake had reportedly been planned as the studio's next project following the reorganized live-service game.
Bluepoint Games, traditionally known for high-fidelity remasters, had been considered an obvious choice for such a project but was shut down by Sony in 2024, making People Can Fly the reported alternative. Insider Gaming notes that People Can Fly's experience in the shooter genre makes it suited for the endeavor.
As of now, neither Guerrilla Games nor PlayStation has officially confirmed the project, and details regarding scope, platforms, or release timeline remain unknown.
