Rhythm Heaven Groove Dominates Japan's August 2026 Game Sales

Rhythm Heaven Groove maintained its momentum in Japan during August 2026, claiming the top spot on the country's best-seller chart for the second consecutive month. According to sales data provided by Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch title sold 271,337 copies during the month, bringing its total to 945,929 units.

Among new releases, Nippon Ichi Software's Village in the Shade performed well, moving nearly 30,000 copies to secure a place in the top five. The game arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 and entered the chart at number five with 29,880 units sold.

Nintendo dominated the publisher rankings in August, with 744,000 games sold across all platforms. The company's strong performance was bolstered by continued sales of Splatoon Raiders on Switch 2, which placed second overall with 163,578 copies sold, and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on original Switch hardware, which ranked third with 85,361 units.

Konami finished in second place among publishers with 161,000 units sold, while Happinet took third with 63,000 units. PlayStation 5 saw Beast of Reincarnation debut at number four with 53,207 copies.

Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales reached 139,165 units in August, a slight increase from July's figure of nearly 137,000 units. The uptick was attributed partly to August containing five weeks of tracking data compared to four weeks in July.
