Irish Browser Games Start-Up Entity Raises $5 Million in Seed Funding

Dublin-based browser games start-up Entity has announced that it has raised $5 million in seed funding to develop a next-generation gaming platform designed for what the company terms the "new web." According to a news release, the venture is intended to replace expensive hardware consoles and allow users to experience console-quality games directly through modern web browsers. The seed funding round was led by venture capital firms ACT, Delta Partners, and Elkstone, alongside the government-funded agency Enterprise Ireland and several angel investors.

Entity was co-founded by Rich Barnwell, Kev Bergin, Dave McGovern, Fergus Duggan, and Artur Stawiarski. The co-founding team previously ran DIGIT Game Studios, the developers behind Star Trek Fleet Command, which was acquired by Scopely in 2019 following a successful launch that generated $50 million within its first few months.

According to the company, the platform utilizes WebGPU and WebAssembly technology to harness a player's local computer processing power rather than relying on remote servers like traditional cloud gaming services. Entity claims this approach avoids common issues such as lag and allows players to jump directly into a game or multiplayer lobby from a single link within seconds, eliminating the need for downloads or installations.

The upcoming platform is expected to officially launch in 2027. Organizers state that the release will feature a broad range of titles spanning global best sellers from PC and console platforms alongside original new intellectual properties, though no specific game titles have been revealed yet.
