How to Find and Craft the Grappling Hook in Valheim
Learn how to locate Hooks in the Mistlands' Infested Mines and craft the Grappling Hook at the Black Forge in Valheim.

Traversing the treacherous, foggy peaks and steep drop-offs of the Mistlands biome in Valheim can frequently lead to fatal fall damage. Fortunately, a new tool introduced to viking survival helps players navigate the vertical terrain: the Grappling Hook. Finding the necessary item to unlock its blueprint, however, requires thoroughly exploring the dangerous bug-riddled dungeons known as Infested Mines.
To find the essential crafting component, players must search for hidden stone doors marked with glowing blue glyphs inside these dungeons. Behind one such door, the Hooks can be discovered resting inside a Dvergr Treasure Chest alongside other valuable items like Black Cores. While multiple dungeons may need to be explored to secure the item, players only need a single Hook to unlock the crafting blueprint.
Once acquired, the Grappling Hook can be crafted at a Black Forge. The complete recipe requires 10 Yggdrasil Wood harvested from Mistlands trees, 10 Refined Eitr processed using Sap and Soft Tissue at the Eitr Refinery, four Mandibles dropped by Seeker Soldiers, and one Hook.
Using the new equipment effectively takes practice. There is a slight delay when loading the hook with an initial left-click before aiming and firing. Players can use the space key to reel themselves in using the chain, and right-click to release the hook. Rather than traditional swinging mechanics, characters hang limply until the player reels themselves toward the target point, providing a much-needed safety net against deadly falls.
