Heroes of the Storm Announces Xal'atath as First New Hero in Six Years
Blizzard has revealed that World of Warcraft antagonist Xal'atath is joining Heroes of the Storm, marking the MOBA's first new character in six years.
At BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that the free-to-play MOBA Heroes of the Storm is receiving its first new playable character in six years. World of Warcraft antagonist Xal'atath will join the roster later this month, marking a surprise update for a game that has long remained in a quiet maintenance state.
Xal'atath, who serves as the lead antagonist of the upcoming World of Warcraft Midnight expansion, is scheduled to launch officially on September 28. Players who want to test her abilities earlier can access her on the Public Test Realm (PTR) starting Monday, September 14. Additionally, attendees at the BlizzCon convention are being given an early hands-on preview of the character at the event.
This update serves as an unexpected resurgence for Heroes of the Storm, which has not seen a new hero added to its lineup in over half a decade. By tying the new release to a major figure from World of Warcraft's ongoing narrative, Blizzard is bringing fresh crossover content back to the Nexus.
