IllFonic has released update 1.0.3 for Halloween: The Game, implementing a comprehensive balance pass designed to address frustrating gameplay dynamics and create more fair encounters between Michael Myers and the civilian survivors.

The patch focuses on civilian melee combat, which the developer identified as overpowered in certain scenarios. The rebalance removes the ability for civilians to reliably one-shot Michael, particularly when using characters like Bob and Laurie or perks that grant bonuses while drunk. The Heavyweight trait received nerfs to both Fear Resistance and Melee Damage, while the effectiveness of the Capability stat for melee damage has been adjusted to narrow the gap between high and low stat values. Michael's Bloodthirst Damage Resistance has been increased across all levels to extend melee encounters.

Michael now receives substantial buffs after recovering from being downed. A short-duration buff grants Stagger immunity along with increased Damage Resistance, Melee Damage, and Melee Attack Speed. Michael also gains increased Health Regeneration and Daze Resistance for a brief period after getting up, preventing instant follow-up downs from aggressive squads.

Weapon tuning reduces damage output and increases time between combo attacks for Wood Axes and Pickaxes, giving civilians more opportunities to interrupt Michael through shoving. Heavy melee weapons, rifles, and shotguns now spawn less frequently across maps to increase their rarity and encourage exploration. Stagger cooldowns for civilians have been increased, and overall melee weapon durability has been reduced.

Scoring adjustments rebalance the value of Special Targets versus Residents. Killing Special Targets now awards fewer points, while saving and killing Residents awards more points, creating opportunities for mid-to-late game score swings.

Grab and pocket knife mechanics receive continued refinement. The force from failed grab attempts has been lowered so civilians don't stumble as dramatically, and civilians now escape grabs more easily at Stalk Tiers 0-2. The pocket knife minigame difficulty has increased slightly to give Michael more time to perform Context Executions.

Civilian movement speed has been rebalanced, with high Athleticism stat civilians moving slower while low Athleticism civilians move faster. IllFonic also adjusted multiple challenges and their progression requirements, allowing players who exceed updated challenge goals to complete them with any additional progress toward that objective.

The patch includes numerous bug fixes affecting civilian and killer gameplay. Issues resolved include civilians being executed after appearing to escape grabs, Bolt Cutters failing to open containers at low durability, emotes canceling animations, players losing movement ability after breaking free from grabs, and Michael's Shape Jump and Killer Sense abilities becoming stuck on cooldown. The Shape Mine placement animation no longer completely stops Michael's movement.
