Gunman Contracts: Stand Alone Launches on SteamVR in Early Access

Originally starting as a popular mod for Half-Life: Alyx, Gunman Contracts has expanded into a fully bespoke, standalone release. Developer ANB_Seth and publisher 2080 Games have launched Gunman Contracts: Stand Alone in Early Access on SteamVR for $25. The title delivers a physical and intense single-player shooter experience built specifically for virtual reality.

In Gunman Contracts: Stand Alone, players step into the role of a hitman operating outside of the legal system, delivering brutal retribution to unforgivable criminal elements. The Early Access launch includes three distinct, connected Story Contracts that take around six to seven hours to complete. In addition to the main narrative contracts, players have access to a fully immersive home base known as "The Hive." Within this hub, players can unlock and customize 18 unique weapons and attachments, practice at a shooting range, play skill games, and train across multiple combat stations.

The gameplay is highly physical, requiring players to manually reload, chamber rounds, aim down sights, and holster their weapons. Stages are specifically designed to funnel players into tight, close-quarters combat where they must clear rooms and handle aggressive, mobile enemies. To aid in chaotic gunfights, players can utilize a slow-motion mechanic, or even resort to physical melee attacks, such as clobbering enemies with a pistol butt or grabbing a knife from a kitchen cabinet when ammunition runs dry.

For players who may find the raw imagery too graphic, the developer has included a menu toggle to turn off most of the blood and splatter effects. The game also features a comprehensive array of comfort and control settings, including snap and smooth turning, headset or controller steering, sitting or standing modes, height adjustment, vignette movement options, and blink teleport options.

The developer plans to release three additional Story Contracts as free updates in the future. Buying into the Early Access version now secures the game at its lowest planned price point.
