GTA Online Payouts Slashed Alongside New Zealand Regulatory Updates
Rockstar Games reduced payouts for major GTA Online heists ahead of GTA 6, while New Zealand advances toward its first licensed online casino regulatory framework.
Recent updates to GTA Online have brought significant changes to in-game economies, just as real-world developments take shape in New Zealand. Rockstar Games rolled out the Kortz Center Heist update on July 14, marking the game's final major content drop before the release of GTA 6. Alongside this new content, the developer reduced payouts across nearly all existing heists, a move framed as balancing to encourage players toward the new job. The top cash payout for the Diamond Casino Heist finale dropped by roughly 30 percent, moving from $2,115,000 down to $1,480,500. Similarly, the best haul for the Cayo Perico Heist fell from $1.3 million to $910,000, with parallel cuts affecting The Doomsday Heist and the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid.
The adjustments provoked immediate community backlash, leading Rockstar to partially walk back some of the Doomsday Heist reductions within days. However, the cuts to the Diamond Casino and Cayo Perico heists remained in place. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, the Department of Internal Affairs initiated a regulatory shift concerning real-money online casinos. The country opened its expressions-of-interest window for its first licensed online casino operators on July 17 and closed it on August 14. Up to 15 licenses are planned, with each requiring at least NZ$7.5 million in available capital and a cap of three licenses per operator. Regulators do not expect the licensed framework to go live before 2027, establishing a deliberate, multi-year rollout that parallels the slow-moving evolution of major gaming economies.
