GTA 6's Netflix trailer premiere temporarily crashed the streaming service

Fans eager to view the premiere of the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer on Netflix were greeted with a "Something Went Wrong" error message precisely as the video was scheduled to go live. The massive rush of viewers trying to watch Rockstar's open-world epic seemingly brought the streaming service to its knees.

The disruption affected users across multiple platforms, appearing on Netflix's desktop app, mobile app, and console applications right as GTA 6: An Extended Look was set to premiere. The heavy congestion did not block access for an extended period, however, and fans were able to access the roughly 20-minute showcase within an hour of the initial outage.

This surge in traffic highlights the massive public appetite for Grand Theft Auto 6. To put the scale of the congestion into perspective, the last time Netflix experienced a similar widespread crash due to high demand was following the release of the Stranger Things Season 5 finale, which drew over 59 million viewers during its first day.
