Grand Theft Auto 5 RealityV 3.3 Graphics Mod Released
Modder 'BadassBaboon' has launched Version 3.3 of RealityV, a graphics overhaul mod for Grand Theft Auto 5, featuring advanced character skin rendering, water improvements, and realistic grass mechanics.
Modder 'BadassBaboon' has released Version 3.3 of their graphics overhaul mod for Grand Theft Auto 5, titled RealityV. The update introduces numerous visual and technical enhancements designed to improve the look of characters, water, roads, and foliage across both the Legacy and Enhanced Editions of the game.
The primary highlight of the RealityV 3.3 update is a significant upgrade to character skin rendering and hair quality. According to the release notes, characters no longer look like plastic or clay dolls thanks to the addition of modern diffusion on character skins with realistic warm light scattering, sub-surface scattering with proper shadow side tinting, sheen, micro occlusion, and sharpening. Furthermore, the mod adds subdermal and epidermal lighting, peach fuzz-style rim lighting, specular damping in creases, and crevice color bleeding to make characters feel like they have flesh and blood. Hair has also been updated to be lit by all light sources, including the sun, featuring back-lit sub-surface scattering, root cavity occlusion, strand depth grading, and a custom curve to prevent low-poly hair models from looking like cardboard boxes.
Water systems have also received extensive attention, taking visual inspiration from Grand Theft Auto 6 and Source 2. The update features stronger and more realistic waves, reflection flattening in canals while maintaining choppy seawater, improved reflection quality and intensity, and proper sky reflections in water. Sub-surface scattering has been introduced to make water feel translucent in waves, alongside depth-graded color for pools, a new procedural ripple system, and fixed ocean water simulation issues.
Additional improvements include enhancements to the game's foliage, roads, and weather effects. Grass now features sub-surface scattering, patched dithering issues in shaders, better blending variations, and individual strand movement driven by the wind. Roads benefit from a real parallax effect fine-tuned to work with VDE’s road textures. Furthermore, raindrops on vehicles and windows have been upgraded with proper depth cue, light transmission, and improved generation and animation.
RealityV V3.3 is available for both Legacy and Enhanced Editions of Grand Theft Auto 5. The Enhanced version is available for free, while the Legacy version—which is noted as the most up-to-date version containing the full changelog—is accessible for Gold Tier members of BadassBaboon.
