Modders Transform GTA 5 Into a Life-Sim RPG Featuring Mining, Foraging, and a Mini-Economy

A new mod called Roleplay Alone turns Grand Theft Auto 5 into a pseudo life sim, adding blue-collar jobs, an energy meter, and other mechanics for Michael, Franklin, and Trevor.

A recent fan modification for Grand Theft Auto 5 transforms Rockstar Games' crime sandbox into a pseudo life-simulation RPG. Dubbed Roleplay Alone, the modification introduces a variety of new mechanics and blue-collar tasks for protagonists Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, including mining, foraging, and a mini-economy.

With the mod installed, players can engage in activities such as chipping away at rocks with a two-handed mattock, smelting materials at a cement mixer, packaging and distributing cannabis, and fishing. These actions are managed through a newly added energy meter that tracks character fatigue. Players can recover depleted energy by pressing the Y key to collapse and sleep on the ground, whether that means resting inside a quarry or dropping unconscious in the middle of a roadway.

While the modification adds unconventional depth and tasks to Los Santos, the economic return for these efforts is modest. Spending roughly 15 minutes engaging in mining activities yields enough in-game currency to purchase a burger. Despite the unlikelihood of replacing the core crime gameplay loop with full-time blue-collar labor, the mod successfully injects alternative gameplay elements and amusing scenarios into the open-world environment.
