Modder Adds Realistic Banking and Credit Systems to GTA 5
A PC Gamer writer has installed a mod that introduces hard and soft credit checks, credit scores, and functional lines of credit into Grand Theft Auto 5, letting players experience realistic personal finance mechanics.

A Grand Theft Auto 5 modder has integrated a realistic banking system into the game, complete with credit scores, credit checks, and debt mechanics that mirror real-world finance.
The mod, called Realistic Bank System – San Andreas ONE, allows GTA 5 protagonists to apply for lines of credit with eligibility determined by credit scores. In testing, Franklin received a credit score of 680 (classified as Good), which granted him a positive soft eligibility for loans. The modder obtained a $30,000 line of credit and set it as the default payment method, meaning in-game purchases would charge to the credit card rather than cash until maxed out.
The mod implements both soft and hard credit checks, mirroring real banking practices. However, the physical bank branch feature proved partially non-functional. While players can enter bank locations and encounter NPCs, teller interactions did not work during testing. The modder attributed this to the chaotic state of their modded Los Santos, where constant modifications generate unpredictable in-game conditions that may prevent standard NPC interactions.
This addition is part of ongoing PC modding efforts to either transform GTA 5 into something resembling GTA 6 or test the game's stability limits. The mod demonstrates how community creators continue expanding the sandbox long after release, adding systems far beyond the base game's scope.
