GTA 5 mod lets players build fame from busking to meet-and-greets

A new Grand Theft Auto 5 mod tracks public approval and fame on separate axes, with repeatable quests that take players from street-level busking to fan meet-and-greets across Los Santos.

A Grand Theft Auto 5 mod called Become a Celebrity adds a surprisingly detailed fame system to Los Santos, letting players build a public profile through repeatable activities. The mod comes from the same creator behind the LifeInvader Business Mod and tracks two separate metrics: public approval and overall fame.

Players start at zero fame with access only to "Z-lister" gigs. The earliest option is busking, which requires around 20 performances at scattered locations across Los Santos. Each gig pays roughly $500 and grants 0.5 fame points, making the grind fairly slow. The experience is further complicated by the usual chaos of the open world, including gang warfare and erratic traffic.

According to PC Gamer, the busking animations do not always trigger correctly, sometimes leaving the character standing still for the duration of a performance. Crowds also tend to react passively or not at all, though hired bodyguards will occasionally applaud.

Once players complete enough busking gigs to cross a fame threshold, a new activity unlocks: the Meet and Greet. This event spawns fans in the Los Santos business district who clap and react to the player character. PC Gamer noted that one such event ended abruptly when a truck struck a significant portion of the gathered fanbase.

The mod is part of an ongoing PC Gamer series experimenting with GTA 5 mods, with the stated goal of either approximating a PC version of GTA 6 or pushing the game to its limits. The Become a Celebrity mod is available alongside other community-created additions that expand Grand Theft Auto 5's single-player sandbox with new progression systems.
