Grand Theft Auto 2 RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Released

Modder gabdeg has released an RTX Remix Path Tracing mod for Grand Theft Auto 2, enabling real-time path tracing on the classic isometric shooter. The mod represents the latest addition to a growing collection of community-created ray tracing enhancements for older games.

The mod introduces several visual improvements to GTA 2. Path tracing enables dynamic lighting from fires, explosions, and gunfire. Emissive maps have been added to some textures, improving how light sources appear throughout the game world. The mod also includes a dynamic time of day system for what the modding community calls Remix Plus, custom community runtime forks or atmospheric add-on packs.

Technical enhancements address longstanding limitations of the original game. The mod fixes the 16:9 aspect ratio view, preventing cars and characters from popping in at the screen edges. Performance reaches 60 FPS with Frame Generation enabled. Players can press F4 to open a settings panel and adjust lighting and time of day parameters in real time.

GTA 2 is freely available to download. Rockstar Games released the game as a free download in December 2004 as part of their Rockstar Classics series, making the RTX Remix mod accessible to players without purchasing the original title.

The GTA 2 RTX Remix mod joins a expanding library of path tracing mods for older games.
