Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered Devs Did Not Consider GTA 6 When Choosing Release Date
Pipeworks senior designer Simon Strange explains that the developers of Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered never considered Grand Theft Auto 6 when picking their November 3 release date.
While most upcoming titles have intentionally steered clear of Rockstar Games' open-world juggernaut *Grand Theft Auto 6* and avoided a November launch entirely, the developers of the upcoming *Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee: Remastered* did not factor the blockbuster into their schedule at all. In an interview, Pipeworks senior designer Simon Strange revealed that the looming release of *GTA 6* on November 16 simply wasn't on the team's radar when they selected November 3 for the remaster's launch.
Instead of worrying about competing with major releases, the development team joined online fans in getting a kick out of the narrative that the King of the Monsters and Barbie were bravely facing off against Rockstar's giant. Strange noted that publisher Atari never raised any sales concerns regarding *GTA 6*, and that the team focuses purely on making video games rather than stressing over launch windows.
The choice of November 3 carries special historical significance for the franchise, as it marks the exact date in 1954 when the original *Gojira* film debuted, making it Godzilla's official birthday. Strange explained that launching the game on this date was intended as a respectful nod to the legacy, expressing confidence that dedicated Godzilla fans would show up to purchase the title regardless of when it arrived.
Other titles are also navigating the crowded late-year calendar. *Barbie Rewind*, a classic game collection, is also releasing in close proximity to *GTA 6*, while publisher Devolver Digital scheduled *Volvy's Adventure: Reslimed* to launch on Steam on November 16. Meanwhile, Rockstar recently provided a lengthy gameplay presentation showcasing new details for *GTA 6* ahead of its release.
