A gaming laptop user on Reddit broke their device hinges by standing it upside down to copy social media video setups.
A gaming laptop user has broken their hardware hinges by following social media trends that involve standing laptops upside down. The incident came to light after a post appeared on the Asus TUF subreddit, detailing how a machine was damaged after mirroring video setups found on Instagram reels.
Laptops are not designed to support their weight while resting on the top of the screen. The affected user explained that warnings from other community members were ignored prior to the damage occurring. One hinge snapped completely and failed to return to its position, while a second hinge broke before snapping back into place. The owner also noted that the device did not even belong to them.
Hardware owners are advised against attempting unsupported configurations with expensive devices to avoid similar structural failures.
